Level 1: Tribal Fundamentals & Formations

8 week course starting Monday 23 January.

Having a solid dance foundation is essential for every dancer. Using fun combos, this workshop will take you back to basics, focusing on the core movements and key principles of American Tribal Style Bellydance. We will learn the basics of both slow movements and fast steps. You’ll be dancing by the end of the first class!

This eight week session includes all basic movements, group formations, zills and posture. Fundamental formations will be explored, plus how to transition smoothly between them to add fun, flare and excitement to your dance.

Suitable for the experienced dancer wishing to revise the fundamental steps to refine and perfect their technique, and anyone newer to American Tribal Style Bellydance.

Level 2: Basic Tribal Combinations

8 week course starting Monday 23 January.

• Time: 18:45-20
• Experience Level: This class is for those who have at least two previous classes in American Tribal Style Bellydance or Tribal Fusion
• Fee: 1000,- (see combo packages)

In this class the basic movements are drilled with the aim of refining individual technique, but they are not broken down. The focus is on learning new movements and how to piece these together as we delve deeper into the concepts of leading, following, improvising, chorus work, partner and group dancing. We’ll look at what makes us powerful and graceful in our slow presentation and focus on what makes us look regal and weightless in our fast presentation.

Mini “workshop within the workshop” will consist of several exercises that will help dancers to learn effective techniques to generate interesting transitions and combinations in order to obtain fluidity in the slow movements and smooth flow in the fast steps. This eight week session includes intermediate movements, group formations, zill technique and music theory for tribal style, posture and body awareness.

Basic knowledge of Taxeem, Body Wave, Torso Twist, Circle Step, Egyptian, Arabic, Pivot Bump and Shimmy required. Students are highly encouraged to continue level 1 in conjunction with level 2 (see combo packages).

Hawk in the Nest is a Norwegian-oriental dance show for the whole family. The Norwegian Bellydance community and beyond is joining forces to help collect money for the project Homa Lime Culture Centre in Kenya.

This will be a magical evening where you can enjoy a wide range of both traditional and modern dance styles. From Classical Indian Dance in the east to Flamenco in the west as well as various styles of Bellydance and Afghan Dance. At the end of the show Tribal Troopers invite all children (and parents) to join them on stage.

Part 1: Makeup

We look at the face and eye shape and shading. The difference between day and evening makeup and stage makeup. You will learn to apply makeup on your own face that will accentuate your best features, both makeup for everyday use and evening makeup, but the emphasis is on the STAGE MAKE-UP.
It is desirable that the participants bring their own makeup, eyelashes and equipment, as it is much easier to train with the equipment and make-up you know.

Part 2: Skincare

Daily facial care – why, how and when. Useful tips and equipment. We the colour wheel to explore the various tones of the skin, hair and eyes.
In relation to skin care, we will bring everything we need, and workshop participants will be able to buy makeup and creams if they wish.

Part 3: Hair, daily care, cure and styling

How to style for everyday, parties and stage use. Useful tips and tools.
It is desirable that the participants bring loose hair / wig as well as decorations and flowers for the hair.

About Hilde and Tove

Hilde Moshølen is a trained hairdresser and makeup artist and stylist. She has worked in the hairdressing industry and at the Norwegian National Opera from 2000-2008.

Tove Hansen is an independent consultant in makeup and skin care.

We explore American Tribal Style Bellydance in a fun choreography with dynamic group formations. You don’t have to be familiar with the cues used in improvised ATS since we will be using the steps in a choreography. The focus will be on the movements, flow and transitions. I will introduce some brand new ATS steps, as the slow movement “Medusa Combo” and the fast step “Shimmy to the Back (the steps will be featured in the next DVD from FatChanceBellyDance released in November).

You will receive a CD with the music we will be using, a leaflet with description of the steps and a detailed overview of the choreography. The choreography  is to “Suhaila” by Domba.
